Earl Woods was a pioneering African-American golfer who helped pave the way for his son, Tiger Woods, to become one of the greatest golfers of all time. Earl was a talented golfer in his own right, winning several tournaments on the amateur circuit. However, his greatest impact on the game of golf came through his son, Tiger. Tiger inherited his father's love of the game and his determination to succeed. With Earl's guidance, Tiger developed into one of the most dominant golfers in history, winning 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour events.

Early Life

Earl Woods was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1932. He was the son of Earl Sr. and Agnes Woods. Earl Sr. was a Pullman porter and Agnes was a homemaker. Earl had two sisters, Gloria and Mary. The Woods family was poor, but they were close-knit and supportive of each other.

Earl began playing golf at the age of 15. He quickly showed a natural talent for the game and began winning tournaments at the local level. In 1951, Earl graduated from high school and joined the Army. He served in Korea for two years and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

After his military service, Earl returned home and enrolled at Kansas State University. He played on the golf team and was a two-time All-American. In 1957, Earl graduated from college with a degree in sociology.

Golf Career

After graduating from college, Earl Woods turned professional. He played on the PGA Tour for several years, but he never won a tournament. However, he was a consistent performer and earned a respectable living as a professional golfer.

Family

In 1966, Earl Woods married Kultida Punsawad, a Thai woman. The couple had two children, Tiger and Earl Jr. Tiger was born in 1975 and Earl Jr. was born in 1977.

Earl was a devoted father and husband. He was always there for his children and supported their dreams. He was especially proud of Tiger's golf accomplishments and was a constant presence at Tiger's tournaments.
