The FBI Miami Shootout

The FBI Miami shootout occurred on April 11, 1986, when two FBI agents were killed and five others were wounded in a gunfight with two armed robbers. The robbers were armed with semi-automatic weapons, and they fired over 100 rounds at the agents. The agents were able to return fire and kill both of the robbers, but not before two of the agents were killed and five others were wounded.

Ayoob analyzes the FBI Miami shootout and identifies several lessons that can be learned from it. First, he notes that the agents were not prepared for the ambush and that they were outnumbered and outgunned. Second, he argues that the agents made several tactical mistakes, such as failing to take cover and failing to use their superior firepower to their advantage.

Ayoob also notes that the FBI Miami shootout was a watershed moment in law enforcement training. After this shootout, law enforcement agencies began to adopt new tactics and techniques for dealing with active shooters. These new tactics and techniques include the use of body armor, the use of cover, and the use of overwhelming firepower.

The Newhall Incident

The Newhall incident occurred on May 28, 1997, when two LAPD officers were killed and 12 others were wounded in a gunfight with a lone gunman. The gunman was armed with a semi-automatic rifle, and he fired over 100 rounds at the officers. The officers were able to return fire and kill the gunman, but not before two of the officers were killed and 12 others were wounded.

Ayoob analyzes the Newhall incident and identifies several lessons that can be learned from it. First, he notes that the officers were not prepared for the ambush and that they were outnumbered and outgunned. Second, he argues that the officers made several tactical mistakes, such as failing to take cover and failing to use their superior firepower to their advantage.

These new tactics and techniques include the use of body armor, the use of cover, and the use of overwhelming firepower.

The North Hollywood Shootout

The North Hollywood shootout occurred on February 28, 1997, when two heavily armed robbers robbed a Bank of America branch in North Hollywood, California. The robbers were armed with semi-automatic rifles and handguns, and they fired over 1,000 rounds at police officers. The police officers were able to return fire and kill both of the robbers, but not before 12 officers were wounded.

Ayoob analyzes the North Hollywood shootout and identifies several lessons that can be learned from it. First, he notes that the robbers were well-prepared for the ambush and that they were outgunned.
